What Is ICADV? The Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) is a not for profit organization. ICADV was founded in 1978 by twelve local domestic violence programs to collectively advocate for services, policies and practices that help battered women and contribute to the elimination of domestic violence. Today, ICADV's policy work, advocacy, training and technical assistance is governed by a Program Council that represents over 50 member domestic violence organizations located throughout Illinois.
ICADV is the powerful statewide voice for all survivors of domestic violence and their children. We work to ensure that families have knowledge of and access to all services and opportunities, endeavoring to provide these services locally. It is our goal to change societal and institutional attitudes about domestic violence and create opportunities for independence and growth.
Domestic violence happens to everyone, regardless of race, gender identity, culture, age, ability, education, sexual orientation, or income level. It is the most common, yet least reported crime in the United States. Domestic violence results in more injuries that require medical attention than rape, accidents and muggings combined.
ICADV is YOUR Advocate. We are the leader on legislative issues affecting domestic violence victims and agencies in Illinois and advocate for victims across the state. We band together with member agencies and our national network to push for legislation that keeps survivors safe.
Knowledge is POWER. ICADV is an educational resource on domestic violence. We provide resource materials on a wide range of issues affecting victims and their families. Our publications reflect the cultural diversity of our state and are available in multiple languages.
Together we TRIUMPH. Programs that are members of ICADV provide free services including emergency shelter, legal advocacy, information, and referrals.
Agencies - Get Involved! Call us to work together on community issues that may affect the state. The larger our numbers, the more effective our voice. Several membership options are available.
